SUPERVISORY CAPACITY: Management and supervision of the three thematic components of the program, program development, monitoring, evaluation and learning.
Background of the Give Us Wings:
Give Us Wings Uganda (GUWU) is an independent organization founded in 1999. GUWU currently works to socially and economically advance poor and vulnerable communities in Eastern Uganda since 1999. GUWU was registered with the National NGO Board as an international NGO under Registration No. S5914/8796 in 2012. The GUWU country program focus is on three interrelated thematic areas namely; Entrepreneurship development, Health and Education. As a result of its recent strategic planning exercise, GUWU embarked on restructuring to realize a technical team that would effectively deliver on its 2018-2022 strategic plan.

With an envisioning of an empowered society exercising full potential and enjoying a fulfilled life, GUWU’s mission is to empower communities to sustainably advance through holistic development. We work with community groups to improve household incomes, parents to ensure children’s access to quality education as a right. GUWU further works to improve health standards of communities through its healthcare services. All these interventions are expected to benefit Tororo and neighbouring districts. The aim of all this is to ensure sustainable community transformation where outcomes and impact are clearly measurable.
Position purpose:
GUWU’s Program Coordinator will be the focal person for the three-pronged program. The overall purpose is to provide coordination, oversight, management, and clear leadership for the program. The Coordinator will spearhead program and project designing, monitoring and evaluation, and actively participate in resource mobilization.
Core duties and responsibilities: (50%)
 Provide leadership and management support across the three program components.
Rebuilding Villages and Restoring Hope in Uganda
 Strictly monitor program implementation and budget utilization to ensure clear target setting and meeting of those targets.
 Ensure compliance with GUWI, the donors and Government policy standards and regulations.
 Ensure effective collaboration across program components and departs within GUWU.
 Write quality reports and submit to the relevant authorities in a timely manner.
 Spearhead the strengthening and management of an effective Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (M.E&L) system showing clear outcomes and impact of the GUWU interventions.
 Communicate with the donors as and when need arises.
 Coordinate the monthly, quarterly and annual planning and budgeting.
 Identify and recommend beneficial strategic partnerships for GUWU.
 Enhance technical capacities of staff one will supervise.
 Co-facilitate periodic stakeholder program reviews and report accordingly.
 Support the Records Assistant in building the Management Information System
 Ensure compliance of corporate procedures and guidelines in records management.
Program Development (40%):
 Work as the focal point person in program development as per the expected standards of an international NGO.
 Design the program charter clearly spelling out its three components.
 Work closely with the Africa Program Director and Program Officers to conceptualise, implement, monitor and evaluate the GUWU 2018 – 2022 strategic plan.
 Closely supervise the Accountant and the Program Officers in the development of budgets and plans for new projects ensuring that donor and GUWI requirements are met.
 Work with the Africa Program Director to develop project concept papers based on real identified and analysed needs and opportunities.
 Ensure maximization of the efficient utilization of available limited financial and other resources plus efficacy in addressing the needs of target communities and households as per the organisation’s mandate.
 Spearhead the coordination of programmatic linkages at every stag of program development.
 Engage in the GUWU resource mobilization drive through identification of funding opportunities at all levels.
GUWU Representation (5%):
 Represent GUWU at meetings and workshops as will be guided by the Africa Program Director.
 Attend meetings to sell GUWU to potential partners and supporters
Other Duties (5%):
 Carry out duties as will be assigned by the Africa Program Director

 Facilitate staff and management meetings.
 Exhibit GUWU core values and working principles at all times.
Required educational standard, Professional abilities, Skills and Knowledge:
 A Masters holder in the relevant fields (Social Sciences, Development Studies, Program Management).
 Five and more years of experience in program work. Experience in program coordination and management will be a key requirement.
 Practical skills in program designing, monitoring and evaluation, plus project proposal development.
 Working experience with national or international NGOs.
 Strong leadership skills with proven ability to work across multiple technical areas.
 Experience working with donors and other organizational supporters.
 Ability to promptly respond to issues and multiple demands.
 Ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to details.
 Good computer skills.
 Good command of English and any of the local languages.
 Effective inter-personal skills.
